Gold Coast is a coastal city in southeastern Queensland, Australia, with a population of approximately 640,778 inhabitants. Located south of Brisbane along the Coral Sea, it is renowned for its extensive sandy beaches, surfing culture, and subtropical climate. Originally inhabited by the Yugambeh people, the region developed in the 19th century through timber and agricultural industries before emerging in the 20th century as a major tourism destination. The city was officially proclaimed in 1959 and has since grown into one of Australia’s fastest-expanding urban areas.
Among its most prominent landmarks is the Q1 Tower, one of the tallest residential buildings in the Southern Hemisphere, offering panoramic views from its observation deck. The Gold Coast also hosted the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Notable individuals born in the city include racing driver Jack Doohan and singer Cody Simpson.
